"The University of Utah’s Office of Sponsored Projects enhances the academic, research and service missions of the University by providing service and support to the University administration, faculty, and staff in their efforts to secure and manage external funding for University activities."

To use customer service skills and available technology to support and enhance the University's competitiveness and responsiveness to sponsors, faculty and staff and to insure institutional compliance with laws, rules and regulations inherent in sponsored research activities and programs. The Office of Sponsored Projects will provide seamless, customer-centered, services in securing and managing sponsored projects."

As visualized below, in the last ten years, the level of external funding of University activities has increased dramatically. This increase in activity is reflected in growth in undergraduate and graduate programs, the dissemination of new knowledge for the public welfare, expanded research opportunities for faculty, the development of richly diverse research strengths, improvement of clinical and patient care services, new public-private partnerships with members of the business community and the creation of new technologies that enhance quality of life.

In serving University faculty, the OSP will provide assistance in identifying potential funding sources, circulating important grant program information and requirements & deadlines, developing competitive applications, reviewing budget & cost effectiveness, providing editorial assistance, negotiating contracts and acting as the administrative liaison with all funding agencies and other research-administrative divisions of the University.
